    Working to Increase, Foster and Sustain Youth Fishing Participation


    The MSSA Youth Angler Club (YAC) is building upon the MSSA’s long history of protecting and preserving the rights, traditions & future of recreational anglers. The MSSA believes educating our youth is a critical part of this mission, hence the creation of the MSSA Youth Angler Club.


    MSSA Youth Seminar Series

    The MSSA Youth Seminar Series is designed to engage youth interested in learning about fishing techniques, methods, biology, conservation & much more. The seminars are open to the public & will be held at Alltackle in Annapolis, MD, as well as, other locations throughout the state. There may also be several field trips arranged in the mid-Atlantic region.

    The 2013 Seminar Series schedule is available on the YAC web page, The schedule of seminar events and related information will be emailed to all registered participants of the Youth Angler Club.


    Youth Angler of the Year Contest

    The Youth Angler of the Year (YAY) contest was designed in 2012 to get kids outdoors & fishing - and it did just that! Over 50 young anglers participated & submitted over 800 entries into the contest.

    This year’s YAY contest begins on April 19th (Opening Day of Striped Bass Season in Maryland) and ends in mid-December (Closing Day of Striped Bass Season in Maryland). Youth anglers will receive points for catching and/or releasing fish, receiving state citations, state/world records & entering/registering for MSSA events. The youth angler that accumulates the most points will be awarded the title of the 2014 MSSA Youth Angler of the Year.

    Chapter Family & Youth Events

    Each year the MSSA’s 14 chapters host a variety of youth-centered angling, crabbing & outdoor activities, including family events, contests & week-long camps.

    Information on the Family & Youth events being held by the chapters will be available on the MSSA website 'Calendar' page,, as well as, in the respective chapter newsletters and/or chapter websites and in Tidelines.

    Please check with the contact person for the local MSSA chapter nearest you for more information on their specific annual events & activities scheduled in 2013.
